# Couples and Family Therapy in Delhi and Online

This is the markdown version of https://drvohras.com/services/couples-and-family-therapy, a page of Dr Vohra's, a psychiatry and psychology clinic in New Delhi. It is information, not medical advice; the clinic's contact details are at the end.

Couples and family therapy at Dr Vohra's is joint work with a psychologist on the patterns between people rather than the problems of one person: repeated arguments, loss of trust, communication that has broken down, decisions about marriage or separation, parenting conflict, and the strain that one family member's illness places on everyone. Sessions are 60 minutes, in person at East Patel Nagar or online, in English or Hindi.

## What couples therapy looks like

The first session is with both partners and maps the problem as each sees it. The psychologist then works on the cycle the couple is caught in, the needs underneath the conflict, and concrete changes to try between sessions. Individual sessions may be added. Therapy does not take sides and does not decide for a couple whether to stay together; it makes the decision clearer and the conversation possible.

## Family therapy

Family sessions are used when a child's or parent's difficulty is held in place by how the family works, when a diagnosis such as schizophrenia or addiction needs the family's understanding and support, or when generations are in conflict in a joint household. Sessions involve whoever is relevant and can mix in-person and online attendance.

## Mediation and transitions

- Pre-marital counselling
- Conflict with in-laws or a joint family
- Separation and co-parenting
- Infertility and loss
- Caring for an ill or elderly family member
