Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapy teaches attention training as a clinical skill: noticing thoughts and sensations as events rather than facts, and choosing a response. At Dr Vohra's it is offered as structured programmes drawing on mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), by psychologists, in person or online, for stress, chronic worry, relapse prevention in recurrent depression and sleep difficulty.

Conditions

Stress and burnout, Anxiety disorders, Depression, Insomnia and sleep disorders

What the programme involves

Eight weekly sessions, each with a guided practice, a short teaching and a plan for home practice of 15 to 30 minutes a day. The practices are secular and clinical: body scan, breath-focused attention, mindful movement and the "three-minute breathing space" used as a pause in daily life.

MBCT, which combines mindfulness with cognitive therapy, has trial evidence for preventing relapse in people who have had three or more episodes of depression.

Who it is for

It is not a first-line treatment for active severe depression, psychosis or acute crisis; a psychiatrist at the clinic can advise what fits.

  • Work stress and burnout without a diagnosed disorder
  • Chronic worry and tension
  • Recurrent depression in remission, to prevent relapse
  • Insomnia, alongside CBT-I
  • Anyone who wants a skill rather than a conversation
