What drives anger
Anger usually follows a judgement: that something is unfair, disrespectful or unbearable. REBT calls these demands ("they must not treat me like this"); the anger is proportionate to the demand, not to the event. Add poor sleep, alcohol, chronic stress, or an untreated condition such as depression, ADHD or a mood disorder, and the threshold drops. Treatment works on both the thinking and the threshold.
How is anger treated at Dr Vohra's?
Assessment: when and with whom anger happens, what it costs, substance use, sleep, and screening for the conditions that lower the threshold. Where a condition is found, it is treated.
Therapy, usually 8 to 12 sessions: recognising early physical signs; the pause (leaving the room, slow breathing) before the response; REBT disputing of the demands; CBT work on interpretations and on assertive rather than aggressive communication; DBT skills where emotions swing hard. Between sessions, a log of episodes and what preceded them.
Couples or family sessions are added when the anger is hurting a specific relationship; many partners attend together.
